Case builder

Case builder

The case builder is a course authoring tool at the module or assignment level. It provides a guided interface for the creation of cases, including a selection of pre-built templates for commonly used content types, such as a team-based learning module or a clinical reasoning case. You can customize your case title, progression, phase structure and content all within a simple 3-step wizard.

How does the case builder change how I create cases in Allele?

Whereas before you would create a case by simply providing a title and then building out phases one-by-one, the case builder saves time by allowing you to do all your case progression and phase customization in one fell swoop.

  • Navigate an intuitive interface for customizing phase titles, types, settings & more
  • Select one of several curated templates or use your previous cases as a starting point for your new case
  • Using Synthesize, seed your phase content with existing course materials in a variety of commonly used formats

What is Synthesize and how does it work?

Allele Synthesize is a feature of the case builder that can take your existing course materials (iRAT questions, lecture notes, presentations, etc.) and adapt it to content for your phase. Uploaded materials can be in a variety of formats, including PDFs, documents, spreadsheets, presentations, images, and more. It works by parsing your uploaded files and mapping the extracted content to blocks in Allele. This can save you the tedious struggle of manually building your course materials in other formats or from other systems in Allele.

Here are some examples of what Allele Synthesize can do:

  • Turn your .docx file with multiple-choice questions into an iRAT or tRat phase with multiple-choice blocks
  • Turn your PowerPoint presentation with text and images into a phase with Paper blocks and image resources
  • Turn your lab chart PDF from a clinical practice case into a phase with a fully populated Lab Chart block
  • Take a picture of your handwritten lecture notes and turn it into a phase that closely resembles it (No, seriously!)

Since uploaded materials are parsed into content at the phase level, you can provide different documents for each of your phases all in one go using the case builder. You can use the ‘Upload’ button next to each phase on the ‘Customize’ step of the case builder to get started.
